Aswan University Announces the Opening of the “Safe Woman Clinic” at the Faculty of Medicine in Cooperation with United Nations Population Fund and the National Council for Women

Aswan University has announced the opening of the “Safe Woman Clinic” at the Faculty of Medicine, as part of its efforts to enhance the services provided by the university hospitals for women and to offer integrated and comprehensive care for Egyptian and Sudanese women within Aswan Governorate and the border areas.

 

The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Louay Saad El-Din Nusrat, President of Aswan University; Dr. Essam El-Adawy, Member of the National Council for Women; Mr. Yves Sancerat, Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA); Prof. Mohamed Zaki El-Dashoury, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aswan University Hospitals; Prof. Ashraf Maabad, Director of the Surgery Hospital; Prof. Ramadan Ghaleb, Director of the Specialized Internal Medicine Hospital; Ms. Sally Zahabi, Head of Programs to Combat Violence Against Women at UNFPA; Dr. Amal Philip, Health Advisor to the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit at the National Council for Women; Ms. Nadine Amin, from the same unit; in addition to a number of academic leaders and faculty members.

 

Prof. Louai Nusrat affirmed that the opening of the clinic comes within the framework of the university’s community role and in light of the political leadership’s focus on women and its efforts to empower them across various fields. He explained that the clinic aims to provide a safe environment and comprehensive care that preserves women’s dignity, supports their rights, and strengthens Aswan University’s position as a regional center for serving women, particularly Sudanese women.

 

Dr. Essam El-Adawy, Member of the National Council for Women, added that this step represents a national model to be emulated. He emphasized that establishing the Safe Woman Clinic within the Faculty of Medicine enhances the protection system and ensures the provision of specialized and sustainable services to combat all forms of violence against women.

 

” Sancerat” Representative of UNFPA, expressed the Fund’s appreciation for the partnership with Aswan University. He noted that the clinic is not merely a medical facility, but a comprehensive support center providing health, psychological, and social services to women and girls in Aswan and surrounding areas, particularly Sudanese women, in light of the challenges resulting from the current situation in Sudan.

 

” El-Dashoury” Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, stated that the clinic represents a significant addition to the faculty and university hospitals. He affirmed the commitment to applying the latest care protocols for women, training medical staff to support survivors of violence, and delivering comprehensive services that meet their needs.

 

”Maabad” Director of the Surgery Hospital, highlighted that the opening of the Safe Woman Clinic is a major step toward strengthening mechanisms for protecting women and providing awareness services in line with national and international standards, thereby supporting health and community development efforts in the governorate and border regions.

 

”Ghaleb” Director of the Specialized Internal Medicine Hospital, explained that the clinic also focuses on training doctors and nursing staff on proper interaction with women and raising awareness about the various forms of violence against women.
