Renewal of the Large Free Medical Convoy Meeting at Aswan University Hospital’s Plastic Surgery Department

The sun shone brightly on Friday, and a new epic began with the final examination of the preparation for cleft operations, palate’s children, and congenital anomalies with tooth detection in order to announce back smile on the children’s lips, where the events of the free medical convoy of the cleft operations and congenital anomalies in the head and neck at Aswan University Hospital, under the supervision of Major General / Ashraf Attia – Governor of Aswan, Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Othman – President of the University, Prof. Mohamed Zaki Al-Dahshoury – Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aswan University Hospitals, and Dr. Ashraf Ma`bad – Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals, with the honor and presence of Dr. Ghada Abu Zaid – Deputy Governor of Aswan, and Prof. Mohamed Salah El-Din – Director of Al-Batinah Specialized Hospital, and Prof. Mostafa Adam Al-Tiri – Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Education and Student Affairs and Head of the Department of Dermatology in Aswan Medicine, under the supervision of Prof. Ahmed Qenawy Moussa – Head Department of plastic surgery , Aswan University Hospital; in cooperation with Egypt Smil Operation Institution and in participation with (Anesthesiology and Intensive Care-Dental-Pediatrics-General Surgery ), and a big elite of Egyptian and foreign consultants at the local and international level.

 

”Othman” Aswan University President, confirmed the prominent role of the Faculty of Medicine in this convoy that includes an international elite of doctors, nurses, and assistants within the framework of community service and providing medical assistance for the incapable ones from Aswan patients and children, the governorates of Upper Egypt every day for a whole week until the late hours from the night, adding the voluntary and therapeutic surgical medical convoy for treating cleft lips, palate and congenital anomalies in the skull for children at the plastic surgery department at Aswan University Hospital included many specialties such as Plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, anesthesia, intensive care, orthodontics, speech, medical laboratories, social care, and medical registration by Egyptian specialist doctors and great abroad consultants from United States, Britain, and Sweden.In addition to the Emirate Institution’s support for the Smile Operation as an international organization and its successful involvement in this medical convoy as a first successful trial.

 

”Al-Dahshoury”, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Aswan University, confirmed that the voluntary curative medical-surgical convoy aimed to repair and perform reparative surgeries for the cleft lip, cleft palate, and to repair congenital defects associated with this problem, such as poor speech and its imbalance with the latest surgical and scientific methods.

 

It is expected that between 85 and 120 surgeries will be performed for patients with cleft palate, and more than 650 cases from villages and regions of Aswan and other governorates will be examined throughout the week, with health awareness meetings at Aswan University Hospital.

 

In a related context, Maabed, Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals, referred to the strong turnout from citizens and children with congenital defects, as the university administration, Aswan University Hospital, and the Department of Cosmetology worked to alleviate the suffering of the patients’ families from carrying the burdens of traveling to other governorates and working to receive treatment. ”Qenawy”, head of the Department of Plastic Surgery, stated that the surgical, educational, and therapeutic medical convoy works to treat cleft lip, palate, and congenital skull defects for children will continue from January 27 to Thursday, corresponding to February 2, 2023. Where the convoy works to provide complementary corrective and medical-surgical treatment, speech, and dental treatment for free, along with conducting the necessary and practical examinations for it.

 

The medical convoy, whose activities were started from the cosmetic department of the University Hospital in Aswan, was able to work on establishing and organizing this voluntary convoy in cooperation with the participating medical authorities during the last period, according to His Excellency. The convoy includes 92 visitors, including 45 foreign visitors among doctors, nurses, coordinators, and technicians to improve and provide Medical service for patients, in an accurate part of the specialization of plastic and reconstructive surgeries, facial and maxillofacial surgeries, and congenital anomalies in children, to draw a smile on the faces of children in Aswan governorate and children in southern Upper Egypt governorates.

 

In addition, Qenawy said that the Aswan Governorate had been approved as the permanent headquarters for the major annual and quarterly local convoys. His Excellency commended the administration of the Aswan University Hospital for its efforts in providing the convoy with the necessary logistical support, including medical supplies, equipped operating rooms, and everything else it required to be successful.
