The Gastroenterology Department launches a workshop on treating obstructive jaundice and removing bile duct stones.

Under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Zaki El-Dashoury, Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Ashraf Maabad, Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals, and Prof. Sahar Hassani, Professor of Gastroenterology and Tropical Medicine in Assiut and Scientific Supervisor of the Department at the Faculty of Medicine, Aswan University.

As part of the ongoing efforts of the Department of Tropical Medicine and Gastroenterology at Aswan University Hospital and its active role in improving healthcare services for the residents of Aswan Governorate and neighboring governorates, and within the framework of the department’s regular scientific day and its continuous activities, a workshop was launched entitled:

“Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)” for the treatment of obstructive jaundice.

Balloon removal of bile duct stones.

Stent placement. Six cases of obstructive jaundice were treated during the workshop. Physicians from the department received patients for initial examinations daily from Thursday, February 2, 2023, to Tuesday, February 7, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM in the Gastroenterology Department on the third floor of the new Internal Medicine Hospital. The patients were examined during this period.

The workshop was a success under the leadership and guidance of Dr. Awni Ali Abdel Rahman, Head of the Department, with the assistance of Dr. Mohamed Abdel Fattah, Lecturer in the Department, Dr. Mina Tharwat, Lecturer in the Department, and the consultants and medical staff, including specialists and resident physicians.

The workshop also hosted:

Prof. Mohamed Tag, Professor of Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Endoscopy at Qena University.

Prof. Hassan El-Khatib, Professor of General Surgery and Endoscopy at Aswan University.
