An Introduction to Pathology:
Pathology is a medical discipline that studies disease features, structural alterations, the nature and function of illnesses, and the changes they induce in tissues or the numerous reactions they elicit, such as transformation, atrophy, swelling, and inflammation.
It also focuses with disease diagnosis by the examination of body samples under a microscope, with a focus on malignancies. Pathology has been compared to the trunk of a tree, connecting the basic and clinical branches of medicine.

The Department of Pathology aspires to be a premier center of excellence for disease understanding and diagnosis through training, teaching, scientific research, and tissue, tumor, and cytological analysis.
Mission:
The department is committed to disseminating knowledge in pathology, training students and researchers in medical applications, and conducting research in various areas of this science. This aim to contribute to the graduation of physicians who can treat patients using the principles taught in pathology, as well as to the performance of advanced analyses and research in this subject, as part of the Faculty of Medicine’s overall purpose.
- Preparing the faculty of medicine’s students and qualifying them through training on grasping the pathological changes in the body’s tissues and organs through microscopy.
- Training students on analyzing diseases through the eye and knowing different lesions to reach an accurate diagnosis so that they can take the proper action.
- Educating the 3rd year students and providing pathology courses for the modern integral system (5+2) 1st and 2nd levels, faculty of medicine, and general pathology for the faculty of nursing students.
- It introduces master’s and MD programs for postgraduate students in pathology or other clinical or academic departments according to the faculty’s regulation in a way that helps promote the medicine’s scientific and research base.
- The department has a vital role in doing scientific research in different fields in cooperation with other specialties.
- The department has a lab for analyzing tissues and tumors in addition to cellular analysis in the university hospital.
