On Thursday, February 3, 2022, Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Othman, President of Aswan University, inaugurated the 6th Conference on Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery. The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Mohamed Zaki El-Dashoury, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Essam Aboulmagd El-Sherif, Head of the Department of Otolaryngology and Conference Chair; Dr. Ashraf Ahmed Maabad, Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals; along with a distinguished group of leading professors of otolaryngology from various Egyptian universities.
In his speech, Prof. Othman emphasized the importance of organizing international scientific, medical, and research conferences, highlighting their role in promoting educational tourism and reflecting Aswan University’s commitment to hosting events that strengthen its international academic standing. He noted that the 6th Conference on Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery marked the resumption of scientific conferences following the suspension caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and witnessed participation from numerous Egyptian and international universities.
Prof. Othman welcomed the distinguished guests and participants and expressed his appreciation to Prof. El-Dashoury, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, for the remarkable efforts exerted to advance the scientific, research, and medical systems in Aswan, which have contributed to enhancing Aswan University’s position in international rankings.
Prof. El-Dashoury stated that the 6th International Conference on Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery included participants from several Egyptian universities, including Alexandria University, Cairo University, Al-Azhar University, Assiut University, and Minya University, in addition to a select group of prominent professors specializing in otolaryngology. He added that the conference, held under the title “New Developments in Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery,” continued over two days and concluded on Friday, February 4, 2022. The conference also produced several scientific and research recommendations in the field of otolaryngology.
Prof. Aboulmagd, Head of the Department and Conference Chair, explained that the conference addressed numerous scientific topics and modern treatment approaches, representing a valuable addition to the Department of Otolaryngology at the Faculty of Medicine, Aswan University, and Aswan University Hospital. One of the conference’s most significant scientific sessions focused on ear and skull base diseases, audiology, vertigo, inner ear disorders, and auditory nerve diseases. The session featured a visiting professor from the Institute of Otolaryngology and Skull Base Diseases in Cyprus, who discussed modern methods for the treatment of vertigo and dizziness.
The conference also included several scientific sessions addressing the latest developments in ear surgery, nasal and sinus endoscopy, speech and language disorders, audiology, middle ear diseases, and throat and neck disorders. The event aimed to promote the exchange of expertise between young physicians, doctors from Upper Egypt, and experienced otolaryngologists from universities across Egypt.
Dr. Ashraf Ahmed Maabad, Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals, highlighted the importance of organizing such scientific and medical conferences in light of the significant development witnessed by Aswan University Hospitals in providing medical services. He noted the expansion of the university hospital’s capacity from 250 to 450 beds, in addition to the تجهيز of the Internal Medicine Hospital, Orthopedics Hospital, and Emergency and Reception Hospital. He emphasized that these university hospitals would represent a major contribution to serving the citizens of Aswan and patients from Upper Egypt governorates.
