On Thursday, March 26, 2026, the eighth annual conference of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department (Aswan Gastro-Hep) at the Faculty of Medicine, Aswan University, was inaugurated at the Obelisk Nile Tower Hotel – Nile Bride Hall in Aswan. This year’s conference is held under the theme:
“Innovations and Challenges in Liver, Gastrointestinal and Infectious Diseases.”
The conference is held under the auspices of Prof. Loay Saad El-Din Nasrat, President of Aswan University; Prof.Mohamed Zaki El-Dashoury, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Ashraf Maabad, Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals; and Prof. Ramadan Ghaleb, Director of the Internal Medicine Hospital.
The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Mohamed Abdel Aziz Mahlal, Vice President of Aswan University for Graduate Studies and Research; Prof. Ehab Fawzy Abdo Mostafa, Conference Chair; Prof. Awni Ali Abdel Rahman, Head of the Gastroenterology Department at the Faculty of Medicine, Aswan University; Dr. Mohamed Saeed, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Aswan; and Prof. Ibrahim El-Zayat, Head of the General Surgery Department at the Faculty of Medicine, Aswan University.
The conference witnessed distinguished participation from prominent medical and academic leaders, as well as a select group of professors of gastroenterology and hepatology from various Egyptian universities.
At the opening session, Prof.Mahlal welcomed the attendees and wished them a pleasant stay in Aswan Governorate. He emphasized the importance of such scientific conferences in enhancing the academic standing of the university through the exchange of expertise and the training of young physicians.
Prof. Ehab, Conference Chair, noted that an advanced workshop on gastrointestinal endoscopy was held prior to the conference at Aswan University Hospitals. As part of a practical training and knowledge transfer program for physicians, the workshop addressed five advanced endoscopic cases: two upper gastrointestinal endoscopies for the management of esophageal varices, and three biliary endoscopy cases, including two cases of bile duct obstruction and one case involving stent removal.
Prof. Awni, Head of the Department, highlighted the wide participation of professors and specialists in gastroenterology and hepatology from various Egyptian universities. This participation aims to foster the exchange of expertise and keep pace with the latest scientific advancements. The conference features scientific sessions and advanced lectures over two days, Thursday and Friday, March 26–27, 2026. He added that the highlights of the first day include:
–“Future Leaders” sessions to support and empower young physicians.
-Specialized scientific seminars on the latest treatment protocols.
-Broad participation from professors representing Egyptian universities.
The conference serves as an important scientific platform for exchanging expertise and staying up to date with the latest medical developments, reflecting the leading role of Aswan University Hospitals in supporting continuing medical education and community service.
