Preparations are Ongoing for a Cleft lip Convoy in Collaboration with Operation Smile Egypt and the Department of Plastic Surgery

 

As part of Aswan University and its hospitals’ commitment to providing medical services to patients in Aswan Governorate and the governorates of Upper Egypt, and under the auspices of Prof. Loai Saad El-Din Nasrat, Acting President of Aswan University, Prof. Mohamed Zaki El-Dashoury, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aswan University Hospitals, and Prof. Mohamed Salah El-Din, Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals, the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Aswan University Hospital, under the supervision of Prof. Ahmed Qanawy, Head of the Department, is preparing to launch a free medical caravan for cleft lip and palate repair in cooperation with Operation Smile Egypt.

 

Dr. Qanawy, Head of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Aswan University Hospital, explained that registration and confirmation of attendance for general examinations and preparation will take place next Friday, December 5, 2025 (please bring a complete blood count and prothrombin time and concentration test). He added that the caravan will operate from December 6 to 10 (to perform surgical procedures).

 

He also stated that preparations are underway for the event, thanks to the significant efforts of the plastic surgery team at Aswan University Hospitals and the university hospital administration, under the supervision and with the participation of surgical, nursing, and anesthesia experts from the international organization Operation Smile. The event will involve specialists in anesthesia and intensive care, plastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatric surgery, speech therapy, pediatrics, dentistry, physical therapy, nursing, support services, and medical records.

 

The program will include the treatment and surgery of congenital facial and hand defects in children, as well as post-burn and post-traumatic conditions, tumors, and hemangiomas.
