Yesterday, Thursday, July 4, 2024, His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah in the sisterly United Arab Emirates, and his accompanying delegation witnessed the activities of the medical initiative to treat eye patients, which was launched under the patronage of Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Major General Dr. Ismail Mohamed Kamal, Governor of Aswan; Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Othman, President of Aswan University; and Prof. Mohamed Zaki Al-Dahshouri, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aswan University Hospitals.
The Emirati delegation was welcomed by Prof. Louay Saad El-Din Nasrat, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, and Prof. Mohamed Salah El-Din, Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals. The visit includes an inspection of the university hospital’s Ophthalmology Department.
Louay, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, expressed his delight with His Highness Sheikh Sultan, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, who came to check on the progress of the medical initiative to treat eye patients that was launched two days ago.
His Excellency thanked and appreciated His Highness for his humanitarian efforts in providing the patients of Aswan and the southern Upper Egypt governorates, as well as his support of the free medical convoy, which is part of the two countries’ close cooperation.
Al-Dahshouri, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aswan University Hospitals emphasized that Aswan University Hospitals and the Faculty of Medicine have a long tradition of providing medical convoys to patients, both locally and abroad. This initiative is the first of its kind in the field of ophthalmology and eye surgery, and its activities are held under the patronage of the Deputy Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah in the sisterly United Arab Emirates, as well as within the framework of the societal and medical role towards patients in the governorates of southern Upper Egypt, and will continue until the completion of the specified number of (100) surgical operations.
Salah El-Din, the Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals, explained that surgical operations are being performed for patients from Aswan Governorate, as the convoy aims to perform 100 operations in the Ophthalmology Department, as (6) operations were performed on Wednesday and (4) operations were performed on Thursday, and the Emirati delegation checked on the operations, which praised the progress made by Aswan University Hospitals in various departments.
