The Third International Annual Conference on Neurology and Psychology kicks off at Aswan University

 

The third annual International Conference on Modern Trends in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Neurological and Psychiatric Diseases and Neurosurgery commenced this evening, Thursday, March 28, 2019, under the patronage of Prof. Ahmed Ghallab Mohamed, President of Aswan University, and in partnership with the Egyptian Society for Neurology and Psychiatry. The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Hanan Abdel Moneim, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Mohamed Zaki El-Dashoury, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Hussein Mohamed Hussein, President of the Egyptian Society for Neurology and Psychiatry; Dr. Ehab Emad, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Aswan; and Prof. Abdullah El-Obeidi, Director General of Aswan University Hospitals.

 

The proceedings began with verses from the Holy Quran and the national anthem of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Dr. Hanan, Vice President of the University, welcomed the attendees and highlighted the importance of this department with its various specializations and the stages of its development. She also expressed her gratitude to the organizers.

 

Dr. Iman, the conference chair, indicated that five scientific sessions and several workshops would be held, addressing the latest advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders. The conference will also present the latest research on tramadol abuse and its harmful effects, including increased brain activity leading to seizures due to cortical stimulation. Furthermore, the conference will showcase the experience of Aswan University’s Faculty of Medicine in using cerebral catheterization to treat hemangiomas and congenital cerebral artery malformations, a procedure applied to 16 cases with a 100% success rate. The conference will also cover the use of repeated magnetic stimulation in a novel treatment for bedwetting in children.

 

The Egyptian Society of Neurology, Psychiatry, and Neurosurgery presented commemorative shields to Dr. Hanan Abdel Moneim, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, and to Prof. Mohamed Zaki El-Dashoury, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. The conference also honored the international expert and Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry, Mr. John Osen. The university also presented shields to participants from other universities, including Al-Azhar, Ain Shams, Mansoura, and Minya. Sohag, Fayoum and South Valley.
