Closing Ceremony of International Medical Convoy for Clift Lip Children for Better Smile

  Under the patronage of Aswan university president Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Othman and faculty of medicine’s dean Prof. Mohammed Zaki Al Dahshori, Thursday evening was the closing ceremony of the International Medical Convoy for  Clift Lip Children for the treatment of congenital malformations, which include: Cleft lip, cleft palate, post-burn injuries, birthmarks, and congenital hand defects for a better smile to our children. The  Convoy was held by plastic surgery department in cooperation with  Smile Operation Egypt under the management of Prof. Mohammed El Shazly, professor of plastic surgery in Assiut university, with an uphold from International Organization for Migration affiliated to the United Nations Organization. The ceremony was attended by manager of surgery hospital Prof. Essam Abu Al Magd, Dr. Ahmed Qenawy Mousa, acting chairman of plastic surgery department, Dr. Sahar – chairman of dentistry department in the university hospital – in addition to those leading the convoy specialized in plastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatrics, anesthesia, intensive care, language and speech and social work.

 

  The hospital received cases with the following treatment program:

  • Checking-up 634 patients starting from Friday corresponding to 12th 2021.
  • Doing reconstructive and prosthodontic surgeries for 106 cases.
  •  

  The activities of the convoy started from Friday, December 3, 2021, until Thursday, December 9, which was preceded by six-months preparation, with the university administration overcoming all obstacles and facilitating administrative, technical and logistical procedures.

 

  The convoy targeted the unable patients, where the operations were performed free of charge, in cooperation with Operation Smile Egypt Foundation, which includes an international medical team specialized in treating these birth defects with scientific and surgical preparation by members of the plastic surgery department at Aswan University hospital, to include the following cases:

  • Birthmarks.
  • Sticking hands after burns.
  • Scars and deformities of burns.
  • Cleft lip and cleft palate.
  • Burns deformities and adhesions.
  • Congenital hand defects.

 

  The closing ceremony was witnessed by a speech addressed by Abu Al-Majd, in which he thanked the medical team for the outstanding effort in serving  patients. He also thanked the university administration in general and the university hospital in particular for the success of the convoy and removing obstacles.

 

  At the end, medical and nursing teams praised the exerted effort in inviting cases and preparing them as well as providing housing inside the internal departments and providing all medical capacities for doing the largest possible number of surgeries in a distinct way with accurate professional performance with adopting annual cooperation protocol on supporting medical work in Aswan university hospital.
