Aswan University and Aswan University Hospital organized a medical convoy for cleft lip operations in Aswan Governorate. The medical, surgical, awareness and treatment convoy continues to treat the cleft lip, roof of the throat and congenital defects of the skull for children in the plastic surgery department in Aswan university hospital. The convoy provides free surgeries for the needed cases.
Prof. Ahmed Ghallab, Aswan University president, confirmed that the activities of the voluntary and therapeutic medical surgical convoy comes to treat cleft lip, roof of the throat and congenital defects in the skull for children in Aswan university hospital, plastic surgery department as a part of the community service and providing a medical service to the humble patients and children of Aswan governorate and other Upper Egyptian governorates. The convoy is scheduled to be from February 21 to 27, 2021.
Prof. Ghallab added that the medical convoy included many specialties, plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, anesthesia, intensive care, orthodontics, speech, medical laboratories, social care and medical registration, through specialized Egyptian doctors and senior consultants visiting from abroad from the USA, Britain, Italy, Pakistan and Morocco in cooperation with the nursing staff.
For his part, Prof. Mohamed Zaki El-Dahshoury, dean of the faculty of medicine, confirmed that the voluntary and therapeutic medical-surgical convoy for the treatment of the cleft lip, the roof of the throat, and congenital defects of the skull for children in plastic surgery department in Aswan university hospital, aimed to reconstruct and do corrective surgeries for the cleft lip, cleft palate, and reconstruct congenital defects associated with this problem of speech impairment with latest surgical and medical scientific methods.
It is expected that the convoy will do 125-180 surgeries for cleft lip patients and check-up more than 670 cases from villages and regions of Aswan governorate and the other governorates accompanied by health awareness meetings at Aswan university hospital.
Dr. Ahmed Qenawy Moussa, acting chairman of plastic surgery department at the university hospital and the general coordinator of the medical convoy for cleft lip operations in Aswan governorate, explained that it includes 92 visitors, including 45 foreign ones among which doctors, nurses, coordinators and technicians to serve the medical convoy. Aswan university, which was able, during the last period, to organize this voluntary convoy in cooperation with the participating medical authorities to improve and provide medical services to patients, in a precise part of the specialty of plastic surgery, reconstruction, maxillofacial surgery, and congenital malformations in children.
On the other hand, some inhabitants of Aswan said that the visit of the international medical team to Aswan Governorate participates in easing the burdens on patients and their families as for the hardship of travelling and the high costs of treatment and surgeries outside Aswan governorate, especially that these accurate operations are performed by an international medical team. They pointed out at the need of training young doctors, especially in central and general hospitals, to rehabilitate medical cadres in the governorate to treat, reconstruct cases of cleft lip to treat all cases of children with cleft lip in Upper Egypt, so that the isolation of sick children with various cleft lip cases can be ended for it affects the efficiency of their skills and their communication with others, praising the surgeries to reconstruct the cleft lip and treat the roof of the throat, at Aswan University Hospital, which are carried out on Aswan, restoring hope and smiles to children and adults and removing the psychological barrier between them and others.
