The second conference of the Department of Tropical Medicine and Gastroenterology at Aswan University commenced today, Thursday, February 8, 2018, under the patronage of Prof. Ahmed Ghallab, President of Aswan University, and will run from February 6 to 9.
The University President welcomed the attendees and emphasized in his address that prioritizing the health of citizens is among the state’s top priorities in the program to combat and treat Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B. He also stressed the importance of providing the latest advancements in tropical medicine, liver diseases, and gastrointestinal disorders.
He added that Aswan University embraces a culture of promoting educational tourism and hosting scientific and medical conferences within the governorate. This reflects the university’s commitment to boosting tourism in Aswan, and international scientific conferences offer an excellent opportunity to promote tourism and showcase the most important tourist attractions in the governorate.
Prof. Ehab Fawzy Abdo, Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and President of the Conference, stated that this year’s conference will present the latest advancements in liver diseases and hepatitis viruses, in addition to gastrointestinal diseases, ulcerative colitis, common infectious diseases in Egypt, and the latest developments in gastrointestinal endoscopy.
A distinguished group of professors of gastroenterology, hepatology, and infectious diseases from the universities of Cairo, Ain Shams, Alexandria, Assiut, Sohag, Al-Azhar, Minya, South Valley, and Aswan participated in the conference.
Prof. Gamal Esmat, Vice President of Cairo University and founder of the National Committee for Combating Viral Hepatitis, emphasized the committee’s positive steps towards addressing liver diseases, including efforts to eradicate hepatitis C and hepatitis B. Professor Sahar Hassani, Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, stated that one of the most important recommendations of the conference is the implementation of the latest advancements in hepatitis C treatment and the management of complex cases of gastrointestinal and liver diseases. She added that the conference will be held annually at this time.
The conference was attended by Professor Magdy El-Sirafy, Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Head of the National Committee for Combating Viral Hepatitis, and Professor Mahmoud Amin Saqr, Professor of Gastroenterology at Aswan University.
The University President honored Dr. Gamal Esmat, founder of the National Committee for Combating Viral Hepatitis, by presenting him with the University Shield. Young doctors and researchers participating in the conference were also recognized.
The event was attended by Professor Ayman Othman, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. Abdullah Al-Obaidi, Director of University Hospitals, and Dr. Hala Al-Obaidi – Head of the Internal Medicine Department and Director of the Kidney Unit, and specialists in gastroenterology and liver diseases from various universities.
