It’s my pleasure to join Aswan University from its inauguration in 2012. Since this date, the university has undergone an apparent development under the administration of the previous president Prof. Mansour Kabash with his active management, till the management of Aswan university’s current president Prof. Ahmed Ghallab who continued the development through adopting ways of parallel development in teaching methods for medicine undergraduate students as well as the alumni students along with promoting medical and professional performance in the university hospitals at Al Seil region and Aswan Al Gadeda. The development included plastic surgery department as for the elements of specialized medical treatment regarding burns management, maxillofacial surgery, hand surgery, anaplasia in the different body parts. The department includes children deformities surgeries, cleft lip and palate repairs, deformities in face and external genitals, as well as treatment of bedsores, nevus, skin, head and neck tumors. It cooperates with other departments to treat the injuries of leg. It adopts surgical laser in different injuries and skin deformities and after hyperpigmentation and burns.
The academic staff is the backbone of the academic system and the medical professional performance. The organizational structure is completed by the assisting staff and the department’s resident doctors. The number increased from 4 to 12 academic members who educate applied medicine and perform the required surgeries.
Since its inauguration, the department has been seeking to promote enthusiasm and gaining sciences in plastic surgery field and its various branches, so we organized two international congresses in the governorate, gathering the most prominent figures of the specialty from inside and outside the republic in 2016 and 2019, to introduce the latest scientific developments. The department also hosted several international medical convoys in the last period. It also cooperated with related specialties to create specialized unit for head and neck surgeries, breast surgeries and microscopic surgeries.
We are still working to promote the department and to provide experience to our academic staff. Egyptian Fellowship program in plastic surgery came into force.
