Since its establishment in 2013 under the administration of Aswan University, the Department of Orthopedics has played a vital role in providing medical care to all segments of society, despite facing several periods of shortages in human and scientific resources. Nevertheless, the department rapidly implemented development plans and expanded its surgical services to include specialized fields such as pediatric orthopedic surgery, congenital deformities, joint replacement surgery, sports injuries, spine surgery, pelvic fracture surgery, microsurgery, and minimally invasive surgery. These specialties have also become major research areas for Master’s and Doctoral theses.

The Department of Orthopedics is committed to enhancing the educational process, developing clinical skills, strengthening diagnostic capabilities, and improving examination and evaluation methods.
The department also seeks to advance scientific research and academic development, obtain accreditation from the Egyptian Fellowship of Orthopaedics, improve infrastructure through increased capacity and resources, and provide continuous clinical and research training to prepare qualified physicians capable of contributing effectively to the field.
