Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Department

The Department of Anesthesia and Surgical Intensive Care began operations at Aswan University Hospital in July 2013, and its primary function is to provide medical care in the Operations Department, which includes four operating rooms that cover all surgical operations, from surgical procedures and emergency operations to the various surgical departments, particularly advanced surgeries in (brain) operations. In addition, medical care was provided in the Department of Surgical Intensive Care and Trauma, which had four beds and was staffed by seven assistant teachers, four teachers, and three experts.

In 2015, with the opening of the operating suite with a capacity of 9 rooms and the intensive care suite with a capacity of 17 beds, in addition to 4 emergency operating rooms, and with an increase in the medical service provided to patients by the department’s doctors, the department was enriched with 8 assistant teachers and 2 lecturers.

 

The Department of Anesthesia and Surgical Intensive Care, Faculty of Medicine, Aswan University, maintains the highest levels of quality in the educational process and scientific research, and it assists the faculty in serving the community and the environment.

It plays the role of a university institution in providing exceptional medical care to patients while utilizing cutting-edge treatment approaches and equipment.
Furthermore, the department works hard to elevate the educational process to the highest levels of global performance and to become the hope of anesthesiology and surgical intensive care students seeking degrees from the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Aswan University.

The department’s research goal will greatly contribute to boosting the level of scientific research at the Faculty of Medicine and Aswan University, allowing them to compete with other Egyptian and worldwide universities for advanced rankings.

The research plan is centered on scientific study in three fields:

Anesthesia:

Local anesthesia using the radio-television machine and how to use it in critically ill patients.
Anesthesia for open heart conditions for children and adults.
Anesthesia for kidney transplant cases.

Intensive care:

The use of television rays on the eyes, heart, and abdomen in the service of intensive care patients and injuries.

Pain treatment:

Using the latest therapeutic methods, thermal frequency devices, and injections to treat patients with chronic pain and tumors.

The department participated with the Department of Anesthesia, Intensive Care and Pain Management, Faculty of Medicine – Sohag University, in holding the following:

-The First International Conference on Pain Management in Luxor 2016.
-The Second International Conference on Pain Management in Aswan 2017.
-The Fifth International Conference on Pain Management in Luxor 2023..
Training courses (workshops)
The department organized a number of training courses in the field of:

Pain treatment (in the use of regular x-ray devices with interventional catheterization and radiofrequency devices to treat pain).

1- Establishing a cardiopulmonary resuscitation center accredited by the American Heart Association

[The center trains doctors and nurses to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation using the latest methods in order to implement a medical service that is comparable to the global level.]

2- Accrediting the department as one of the accredited departments for training and qualifying Egyptian Fellowship doctors for anesthesia (accredited 6-2019).

3- Establishing a simulation training center

[This is to ensure that medical staff members reach safe and effective levels of patient service and demonstrate their ability to provide the correct medical service to patients before dealing directly with patients.]

4- Conducting periodic training courses to improve the level of medical service provided and working to train new doctors on the latest devices.
