Faculty of Medicine Organizes Ophthalmology Department’s Scientific Day in Cooperation with Tanta University

On Friday, March 18, 2022, at Pyramisa Isis Hotel and under the patronage of Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Othman, Aswan university president, the faculty of medicine launched the fourth scientific day of the ophthalmology department, in cooperation with the ophthalmology department, faculty of medicine, Tanta university, in the presence of Prof. Mohamed Zaki El-Dahshoury, dean of the faculty of medicine and chairman of Aswan university hospitals, Prof. Mohamed Mostafa Hussein, vice dean for graduate studies and research affairs, Prof. Mustafa Adam Al-Tiri, vice dean for education and students’ affairs, and Dr. Ashraf Meabed, executive manager of Aswan university hospitals, under the supervision of Prof. Ahmed Fathy Jabr, chairman of the department of ophthalmology and surgery in Aswan university’s faculty of medicine, in the presence of a group of ophthalmologists of various Egyptian universities.

 El-Dahshoury indicated that Aswan university’s faculty of medicine is keen on organizing many scientific, medical, and research conferences and encouraging academic staff, their assistants, and students to participate in all activities and scientific conferences which affected research and scientific process positively by exchanging experiences, which in turn leads to the development of capabilities and skills of young doctors to reach an advanced scientific level and to provide a better medical service for eye patients in Aswan, as well as to develop the educational system and keep pace with the new issues in the field of continuous medical education and research.

Mabead” stated that medical, scientific, and research conferences as well as scientific days aim to track new issues in the field of medicine, especially eye surgery for continuous education for young doctors and exchange of experiences to provide advanced and safe health care for eye patients.

The day was inaugurated by “Jabr”, chairman of the ophthalmology department, by introducing an overview of the department, its history, scientific, and research achievements, new methods of treating eye diseases, modern surgery, community services in which the department participates as for medical convoys, medical check-up and provide treatment free of charge, referring to the role of Prof. Abdullah Al-Amin, former chairman of the department, in supporting it. He added the day will discuss recent results in corneal transplantation and trying to eliminate waiting lists of eye patients in Aswan, it will be concluded with a competition for young doctors.

  Dr. Mustafa Abul-Magd, director general of preventive medicine in Aswan health affairs directorate, explained that the teams of the “Knock on Doors” campaign continue their work to vaccinate citizens against COVID, after the campaign reached citizens in the remotest villages, adding that the ministry of health agreed on extending the campaign’s period for two additional days to be ended on March 17th instead of the 15th of the same month, indicating that the campaign targets all citizens aged 12 years and above, without prior registration on the website and without waiting for a message as before, during appointments from 8 am until 3 p.m. daily, as 680 fixed and mobile teams were prepared and equipped, including health units and hospitals, in addition to civil associations, youth centers, and gathering places.

  It should be noted that the directorate’s preventive medicine sector has finished vaccinating 100,867 citizens, as part of the activities of the Knock on Doors campaign, which was launched on March 6 and continued until March 17, under the auspices of the ministry of health and population.
