According to the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, Aswan
university faculty of medicine held a conference under the title ” Anti-Circumcision Doctors’ Initiative” in cooperation with National Council for Population, public health and community medicine department in Aswan governorate. The event was held on Sunday corresponding to 5th March 2017 in one of Aswan’s hotels under the patronage of Aswan university president Prof. Abd Al Qader Mohammed Abd Al Qader, the dean of the faculty of medicine and the conferenc’s rappartur Prof. Hussin Al Sherief, the faculty of medicine’s vice dean of education and students’ affairs and the scientific supervisor on public health department Prof. Omima Al Gebaly. The conference was attended by some Muslim and Christian clerics, faculty of medicine’s 4th year students, faculty of medicine’s professor, Aswan university hospital doctors, department of public health and community medicine at the National Population Council’s doctor, a group of intellectuals, writers, civil society institutions as well as members of the National Council for Women. Several speeches were delivered by some Sheikhs affiliated to Al Azhar in Aswan, from Aswan Church the hegumen /Musa Rafla, director general of national council of motherhood and childhood Dr. Fatama Antar, Dr. Firdaws Al Samadnaw, manager of the national project for empowering family and combating female circumcision, Dr. Omaima Al-Jabali, scientific supervisor on the department of health and population and Dr. Shimaa Sayed, lecturer of public health.
