Under the patronage of Prof. Loay Saad El-Din Nasrat, President of Aswan University; Prof. Mohamed Zaki El-Dashoury, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; and Prof. Ashraf Maabad, Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals, and in the presence of Major General Amr Lashin, Governor of Aswan, along with the directors and heads of various departments at the university hospitals, Aswan University Hospitals have inaugurated the Pathology Laboratory (Tissue and Tumor Analysis), marking a new scientific and medical milestone. This laboratory is considered a cornerstone for making critical treatment decisions.

The initiative is carried out under the supervision of a distinguished group of academic staff, headed by Prof. Shaimaa Bibars, Head of the Pathology Department, and attended by Dr. Rasha Mohamed Samir, Lecturer of Pathology; Dr. Taghreed Mohamed Amin Mustafa, Lecturer of Pathology; in addition to a number of faculty members, their assistants, and a specialized technical team.
Prof. Shaimaa Bibars, Head of the Pathology Department, explained that the upgraded laboratory is based on three strategic pillars:

1. Diagnostic and Therapeutic Aspect (Patient Care):
-Accurate Final Diagnosis: The laboratory serves as the primary reference for determining the nature of diseases and tumors, upon which chemotherapy and surgical treatment plans are based.

-Rapid Decision-Making: Establishing the laboratory within the hospital significantly reduces turnaround time, enabling patients to begin treatment as quickly as possible.

-Integrated Services: The laboratory provides essential support to surgical departments through rapid intraoperative tissue examination (frozen section), allowing immediate assessment of tumor spread during surgery.

2. Academic and Educational Aspect:
Training: The laboratory serves as an accredited training center for medical and nursing students, as well as resident physicians.
Postgraduate Studies: It opens wide opportunities for researchers to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees in pathology, one of the most in-demand medical specialties worldwide.

3. Research and Development Aspect:
Prof. Mohamed Zaki El-Dashoury, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, stated that the laboratory represents a cornerstone for research on tumors and chronic diseases, contributing to the publication of internationally recognized research and enhancing Aswan University’s global ranking. He also emphasized that the laboratory paves the way for adopting advanced technologies such as digital pathology, in line with global developments.

Prof. Ashraf Maabad, Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals, added that the opening of the laboratory comes as part of a series of major medical inaugurations, including the Orthopedic Hospital and the Ear, Nose, and Throat Department.
