The Department of Tropical Medicine and Gastroenterology Launches an Advanced Workshop on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy

Under the patronage of Prof.Loay Saad El-Din Nasrat, President of Aswan University; Prof Mohamed Zaki El-Dashoury, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Ashraf Maabad, Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals; and Prof. Ramadan Ghaleb, Director of the Internal Medicine Hospital and under the supervision of Prof. Awni Ali Abdel Rahman, Head of the Gastroenterology Department, and Prof. Ehab Fawzy Abdo Mostafa, Professor of Tropical Medicine and Gastroenterology, Faculty of Medicine, Assiut University.

The Department of Tropical Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Hepatology at Aswan University Hospitals organized an advanced workshop on “Gastrointestinal Endoscopy” on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. The workshop was held as part of the activities of the department’s 8th Annual Conference, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, March 26–27.

 

Held at Aswan University Hospitals, the workshop aimed to provide hands-on training and facilitate the transfer of expertise to young physicians. A total of five advanced endoscopic procedures were performed, including two upper gastrointestinal endoscopies for the management and follow-up of esophageal varices.

 

Additionally, three biliary endoscopy procedures were conducted, including two cases of bile duct obstruction and one case involving stent removal.
The workshop was attended by Prof. Awni, Head of the Gastroenterology Department at the Faculty of Medicine, Aswan University, and featured the participation of a distinguished group of professors and specialists, including:

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Amer Afifi – Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Al-Azhar University.
Dr. Iman Amer Afifi – Consultant of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

The guests were welcomed by Prof. Ashraf Maabad, Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals; Prof. Ramadan Ghaleb, Director of the Internal Medicine Hospital; and Dr. Mohamed Saeed, Administrative Supervisor of the Anesthesia and Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Faculty of Medicine, Aswan University.

This comes as part of Aswan University Hospitals’ ongoing commitment to supporting practical training, enhancing physicians’ skills, and delivering high-quality medical services to patients.
