
The SCU’s meeting no. 698 was held on 21st March 2019 where the study in the universities’ future plans were discussed in the framework of the international status regarding the outbreak of the novel COVID 19. At the beginning of the session, the Council valued the Egyptian State resolutions to keep the Egyptians well-being safe and all the efforts exerted by Egypt’s ministries and sectors in this regard.
The Council urged the citizens to abide by the State’s resolutions to contain coronavirus spread. It thanked the universities’ academic staff and employees on their quick and distinct support to the e-learning system and valued the role of the physicians, nursing staff, technical and administrative staff of the Egyptian hospitals.
The Council stressed on the priority of keeping the students’, the academic staff’s and the employees’ health so all precautionary measures are done in this respect for achieving that. So, it decided to:
- Stress on the announced emergency plan to combat coronavirus in the universities’ buildings and facilities including the ongoing sterilization and disinfecting.
- Stress on the Supreme Council of Hospitals’ resolutions of its unusual session on 19th March 2020.
- Continue e-learning education during the suspension period. As for faculties that require practical exams, they will be carried out after school resumption or in the summer.
- Coordinate with the ministry of communication and information technology to provide free access to e-learning platforms.
- If the study suspension continues further than the previously announced date, the mid-term exams for the second semester will be canceled.
- Postpone second-semester exams, and it will not be held before the 30th of May according to the schedules that will be announced by each university.
- As for postgraduate students, each university is free to decide the date of the exams taking into consideration that the suspension period isn’t added to the required period to get a scientific degree.
- The council is in a permanent session to follow the updates and taking the required measures.
