The Scientific and Social Committee of the Medical Students Union organized a visit to the Oncology Institute in Aswan on Saturday, June 4, 2022, under the auspices of Prof. Muhammad Zaki Al-Dahshoury – Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, under the supervision of Prof. Mustafa Adam Al-Tiri – Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Hussein Mohamed Hussein – General Coordinator of Student Activities at the Faculty of Medicine in coordination with Dr.Mohamed Shawky Mowafi – Director of the Oncology Institute, where he was welcomed by him, and all doctors and staff of the institute was very keen that the students’ visit would be of benefit.

“Al-Dahshoury” Dean of the Faculty of Medicine stressed the importance of scientific visits and student activities carried out by the students of the college, in accordance with the university’s plan to activate student activities during the academic year, under the auspices of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar – Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; he also thanked the Institute’s management for the Reception of their students.

Today, he took a tour inside the hospital departments and explained the scientific and technical sides and clarified many points for the students:

-The patient’s journey inside the hospital from the1st day.
-Specializations are required in the institute.
-The different types of procedures used to diagnose cancer.
-The methods used in the treatment of cancer in the hospital (surgery – chemotherapy – radiation) and an explanation of each of them.
-Types of chemotherapy.
-Periodic examination programs are available in the hospital.
-Therapeutic services and inpatient and outpatient clinics in the hospital (pain and palliative care clinic – hematology clinic – linear accelerator…etc).
-Different x-ray devices and the difference between each of them.
-Nuclear medicine specialization and its uses.
-The available laboratories in the hospital are represented (Hematological blood laboratories – Chemistry laboratories – Microbiology – Pathology) and the importance of each of them.
-Immunology unit and blood bank.

In conclusion, the students distributed support and sympathy papers to patients and their companions and distributed many small gifts to them to bring joy to their hearts, and pray for a speedy recovery.
