The University President and A Delegation of the International Commercial Bank Open the Department of Neurosurgery

The Commercial International Bank – Egypt Foundation CIB has financed, equipped and operated the first pediatric neurosurgery center at Aswan University Hospitals at a total cost of more than EGP 9 million to treat about 800 children annually, which was opened for official operation yesterday, Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

The opening came in the presence of Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Othman, President of Aswan University, Prof. Mohamed Abdel Aziz Mahalal, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs, Prof. Mohamed Zaki El Dahshoury – Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Dr. Ashraf Ahmed Maabed – Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals.Prof. Essam Abul-Magd – Director of the Surgery Hospital, Prof. Mohamed Salah El-Din – Director of Al-Batinah Hospital, Dr. Sherif Farag – Deputy Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals, Prof. Khaled Ismail – Head of Neurosurgery Department, and Dr. Ahmed Hani Abdel Alim – Project Manager and Neurosurgery Instructor, Ms. Nadia Hosni – Secretary General of the Commercial International Bank Foundation, Eng. Sherif Al-Saeed – Director of the Commercial International Bank Foundation, and Ms. Lujain Hussein – Senior Program Planner at the Commercial International Bank Foundation.

Ms. Nadia Hosny, Secretary-General of the Commercial International Bank Corporation, explained that the corporation had contributed to the establishment of the first pediatric neurosurgery center in Upper Egypt. The department is equipped with intensive care department (6 families),medium care department includes (6 families) and internal department contain, the department is also equipped with 2 television sets one for neurosurgery and the other for intensive care, and the unit is equipped with its own sterilization device.
Intensive care includes respirators, the latest devices to follow up vital functions, and the latest devices for pumping solutions. The unit includes a room for academic staff, a secretariat, a resident doctor’s room, and a nursing room.

This cooperation demonstrates the CIB Foundation’s keenness to actively participate in community service and development, as it is interested in supporting and developing distinguished medical services, to improve the conditions of Egyptian society and improve medical care services for children, to which the Bank has allocated 1.5% of its net profits annually to serve children from birth until For 18 years, the CIB Foundation has received many prestigious awards from many prominent institutions, in recognition of the Foundation’s contributions to social responsibility activities.

Al-Saeed, director of the Foundation, stated that the Foundation has achieved a leading role and constituted a great influence in supporting the state’s efforts in the health sector, especially the children of Egypt who suffer from deficiencies in medical services and financial resources, especially pediatric neurosurgery patients in Upper Egypt who suffer from severe shortages. Medical services, which constitute a great burden for children and their families, as a result of the lack and scarcity of centers specialized in the treatment of neurosurgery for children in the governorates of Upper Egypt.

Othman, President of Aswan University, stressed the importance of upgrading the health system in Aswan University Hospitals, which is witnessing an unprecedented medical boom by adding new specialties and medical facilities such as the Central University Hospital on the campus in the new city of Aswan, and a number of specialized medical centers, and work is in full swing. In the emergency hospital, the Al-Batinah Hospital was also operated, and with these openings soon, the medical system in Aswan will witness a major breakthrough in providing distinguished medical and health services to Aswan patients and patients in the southern Upper Egypt governorates.

His Excellency added that we are working to provide support to various health services for children, especially neurosurgery, which is a delicate and rare specialty in Upper Egypt in light of the real partnership between the Commercial International Bank Foundation and Aswan University, through attention to the health system for children, with the aim of reducing the burden on their shoulders The most needy families in the governorates of southern Egypt, which reflects the extent of the solidarity of the Egyptian state institutions and civil society in supporting the state’s efforts to provide a decent life, especially in the health sector, to achieve the best treatment results and global cure rates.
Osman, President of Aswan University, also expressed his thanks and appreciation for the contribution of the Commercial International Bank Foundation in establishing the first pediatric neurosurgery center in Upper Egypt. The fruits of this fruitful and constructive cooperation are reaping the benefits of the Aswani citizen and the neurological patients in Upper Egypt.

Al-Dahshoury, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, explained that the Department of Neurosurgery was established with the beginning of the university’s establishment, as there was no neurosurgery specialization in the Teaching Hospital before joining the university, and there was no place designated for neurosurgery cases at the university hospital, but with the development Which witnessed by the University Hospital, which began by increasing the number of hospital departments to 33 specialized medical departments, including a number of subspecialties within each specialty, and therefore the place of neurosurgery was shared with the rest of the surgeries until it became an independent department to serve patients with neurosurgery.
Maabed, the Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals, praised the unprecedented development that the university’s medical facilities have achieved over the past years, and this is what is in the process of opening the Department of Neurosurgery, which has 22 beds with intensive care for the department, comprising 6 beds for post-operative cases. ”Ismail” head of the department mentioned that , he deals with all various cases of brain injuries whether by surgical entrance or by following- up upon the nature of each case, where cases were transformed to Assuit University Hospital, the department also performed operations specialized in spine surgery and congenital anomalies cases

The department receives cases of emergencies and accidents and performs various surgeries while dealing with all cases of injuries that come from different parts of Aswan Governorate.
