Under the Patronage of Aswan University Leadership, the Fifth Annual Conference of the Department of Tropical Medicine and Gastroenterology Convenes at the Faculty of Medicine.<\/span><\/p>\n

Under the patronage of Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Othman,<\/span> President of Aswan University, and Prof. Mohamed Zaki El-Dashoury<\/span>, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aswan University Hospitals, and under the supervision of Professor Gamal El-Din Esmat, Professor of Gastroenterology and Tropical Medicine and Honorary President of the Conference; Prof. Ehab Fawzy Abd<\/span>o, Professor of Tropical Medicine and Gastroenterology at Assiut University and Conference President; and Prof. Sahar Hassani,<\/span> Assistant Professor of Tropical Medicine at Assiut University and Scientific Supervisor of the Department at the Faculty of Medicine, Aswan University, in the presence of Dr. Awni Ali Abdel Rahman, Lecturer in Tropical Medicine and Gastroenterology; Dr. Mina Tharwat Shoukry,<\/span> Lecturer in Tropical Medicine and Gastroenterology; and Dr. Mohamed Abdel Fattah, Lecturer in Tropical Medicine and Gastroenterology, the Fifth Annual Conference of the Department of Tropical Medicine and Gastroenterology commenced today<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe conference is organized by the Department of Tropical Medicine and Gastroenterology at the Faculty of Medicine, Aswan University, in cooperation with the Egyptian Society for Research and Training in Liver and Intestinal Diseases and the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Aswan Fever <\/span><\/p>\n

Hospital. Held on Thursday, March 31, 2022, the conference is entitled:<\/span><\/p>\n

\n(Single-Topic, One-Day Conference)<\/span>
\nAt the opening session, Professor Ayman Othman, President of Aswan University, welcomed the participants and emphasized that safeguarding public health remains a top national priority, particularly through programs aimed at combating and treating Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. He highlighted the importance of keeping pace with the latest advances in tropical medicine, hepatology, and gastroenterology.<\/span>
\nHe further noted that Aswan University actively promotes educational tourism by hosting scientific and medical conferences within the governorate. Such events contribute not only to academic and medical development but also to supporting tourism in Aswan by showcasing its rich cultural and historical attractions to visitors from across Egypt and abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n

For his part, Prof.Mohamed El-Dashoury,<\/span> Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, stressed the faculty\u2019s commitment to organizing scientific, medical, and research conferences and encouraging faculty members, teaching assistants, and students to participate in scientific activities that enrich research and academic development. He explained that exchanging expertise and knowledge helps enhance the capabilities of young physicians, improve healthcare services for patients with gastrointestinal and liver diseases at Aswan University Hospital, and keep pace with the latest developments in medical education and scientific research.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prof. Gamal El-Din Esmat,<\/span> former Vice President of Cairo University and founder of the National Committee for the Control of Viral Hepatitis, reviewed the significant achievements made in addressing liver diseases and the ongoing national efforts aimed at eliminating Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.<\/span>
\nProf. Sahar Hassani,<\/span> Head of the Department of Tropical Medicine and Gastroenterology at the Faculty of Medicine, Aswan University, explained that the conference aims to discuss and implement the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). She also noted that the conference is scheduled to be held annually and highlighted the key recommendations issued by the participants:<\/span>
\nContinued and urgent screening for liver cancer among high-risk patients.<\/span><\/p>\n

Broad implementation of screening and diagnostic strategies, with diagnostic methods selected according to each patient’s condition and available resources.Adoption of modern liver tumor assessment systems to facilitate the selection of the most appropriate treatment approach through multidisciplinary collaboration.<\/span><\/p>\n

Continued efforts to eliminate Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C, which significantly reduce the risk of developing liver cancer.<\/span>
\nProf.Ehab Fawzy Abdo<\/span>, Conference President and Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, emphasized that the Egyptian state continues to unify efforts in support of healthcare initiatives. He pointed out that collaboration between healthcare institutions and universities has recently contributed to remarkable progress in the healthcare sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Dr. Mina Tharwat Shoukry<\/span>, General Coordinator of the Conference, stated that the one-day event brought together more than one hundred professors, researchers, and physicians from Aswan and various Egyptian governorates, representing a wide range of medical specialties. He described the conference as a continuation of the distinguished scientific and academic role played by Aswan University and its Faculty of Medicine across multiple medical disciplines.<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference featured several scientific sessions, lectures, and presentations addressing the latest developments related to hepatocellular carcinoma. The event witnessed broad participation from leading professors of gastroenterology, hepatology, and infectious diseases from Egyptian universities, in addition to physicians from Aswan and other governorates.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the sidelines of the conference, and in recognition of the importance of honoring scientific excellence as a means of encouraging innovation and community service, Professor Sahar Hassani, Head of the Department, honored the young physicians and researchers who participated in the conference. She also presented shields of appreciation to Professor Ayman Mahmoud Othman, President of Aswan University, and Professor Mohamed Zaki El-Dashoury, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, in recognition of their outstanding efforts in advancing the Department, the Faculty, and the University as a whole.<\/span><\/p>\n
